Llanidloes long bridge

On the northern approach to the town centre

Llanidloes Long Bridge was built in1826 to replace a nearby timber bridge, carrying the now B4518 and B4569 over the River Severn close to the centre of the town. It is a very elegant bridge of three elliptical stone arches which was widened in 1938 to the effect that only the downstream elevation is the original Penson structure (middle picture). This displays the characteristic Penson features of prominent keystones and voussoirs with deeply incised joints. The bridge is Grade II listed.
