Caersws bridge

Caersws bridge

In the village of Caersws, Montgomeryshire, on the A470

Caersws bridge was built in in 1821 to replace an earlier two-arch stone bridge which was in a poor condition. It carries the A470 across the River Severn. It consists of three long, low elliptical stone arches. Cutwaters added in 1843. The parapets, made of a different stone, a mixture of smooth- and rough-faced irregular blocks, appear also to have been added later. Later still, strengthening with tie-bars was added.
